We bought the AmarAgua in 2001 after retiring from our career as professional dancers, during this time we had the pleasure of working both in Europe and throughout the Far East, as well as TV and Threatre, returning to Dawn-Ann's home town Edinburgh in 1992 where we continued with our passion and opened "Artistika Show Productions" going on to produce, choreograph and make all the costumes for many, many shows.
In 1999 we changed direction again, Dawn-Ann went to work for Monarch Airlines as cabin crew and Tony went to Telford College to study for an HND in Hospitality Management, while working in many of Edinburgh's top restaurants and Hotels ( The Dome, The Tower, Carlton Hotel, Channing's Hotel.....) .
Since we started in the guest house, we have had the opportunity to meet and greet hundreds of guest, many of which we are proud to call friends and look forward to their return visits.
In 2010 AmarAgua Guest House, featured in the first series of the TV programme called " 4 in a Bed". The concept is Four B&B owners throw open their doors and take turns to stay with one another - and pay what they consider fair for their stay.
AmarAgua has been recommended for many years in the prestigious American Travel Guide "
Rick Steves", soon after also chosen to be part of "
Frommer's" and "
Fodor's" . We are also extremely proud to have been awarded the "
Tripadvisor" certificate of excellence again this year.
Near the Guest House you also find many recreational facilities include a golf course, tennis courts and a swimming pool as well as the majestic “Arthur Seat”, situated in the Holyrood Park in the middle of the city where you can hike to the top which takes about 40 minutes from us and enjoy the 360 degrees view of the capital of Scotland.
The Pollock Halls and the Commonwealth Swimming Pool are also located very near to the guest house, within 5 minutes walking distance.
Parking & Transports
Some Guest Houses and Hotels offer a private car park and they usually operate on "First Come, First Served" basis, as they may not have as many parking spaces as bedrooms.
AmarAgua does NOT have a CAR PARK, but we do have FREE on street parking, both in our street and the surrounding area so you will always find a parking space.
We would recommend that guests do not hire cars while visiting the city,as we have an excellent and economic public transport system .The cost is £1.40 per journey or £3.50 for "All-Day", any bus ( from same company) paying the driver. Please note that the driver can not give you change back, therefore the right money is advisable.
We endeavour at AmarAgua to make our guests stay a comfortable enjoyable and relaxing one, where the interior mixes an Oriental flavour with a fronted Victorian townhouse, with period decor and yet with all the modern technology, large flat screen TVs and FREE WIFI in all bedrooms.
Throughout Edinburgh, you will find a wide array of quality restaurants, bars and cafes, offering dishes from a wide geographical area from traditional Scottish Fayre, Indian, Japanese, French, Italian, seafood specialists, catering for every taste in food and range of budget.
This makes the b&b the perfect location for those who want to relax away from the noise of the capital but at the same time stay near to the city centre.
Your hosts Dawn-Ann & Tony are more than happy to share their local knowledge with you and suggest places to visit and see, eat and drink.
