The Capital of Scotland and home of the new Scottish
Parliament has been a seat of learning and culture since the
Middle Ages, steeped in Scottish History it is also the home
to many arts festivals throughout the year both
international and home grown.
Of course there is much more to Edinburgh than festivals,
museums and attractions. Perched high on an extinct volcanic
outcrop is the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels, Edinburgh
Castle it dominates the capital's skyline with stunning
views across the city and out to the Firth of Forth.
Edinburgh is a city with a unique combination of heritage,
culture, colour and a quite breathtaking beauty, with quaint
corners and alleyways in the Old Town, to the Georgian
splendour of Charlotte Square – and for those of you with a
head for heights there is that famous climb to the top of
the Scott Monument.
Known across the world for their grandeur and beauty with a
unique built heritage going back over 5.000 years,
Scotland's Castles in their time have been places of
worship, courts of law, prison, barracks, places of
entertainment and hospitality, lodging people from every
walk of life. Depending on how they are defined there are at
the very least 1200 stone castles in Scotland.
